In a sign of the times, Virgin Media Broadband is offering three months free Internet access to new customers who take up the company’s Broadband L and Phone M package, although the offer will only remain open for a limited period. The initial savings, aside from the free installation available, will equate to around £45 per customer and are sure to attract the attention of significant numbers of Internet broadband users across the UK.
The package will allow broadband users to access speeds up to 10 Mb per second, unlimited downloads, 5 GB of online storage and a free wireless router into the bargain. While there’s no doubt that Virgin Media Broadband is making a major player for the UK broadband market, the company is also looking to cross sell existing telephone and TV packages which could prove to be a very lucrative and potentially highly successful strategy. As we approach the Christmas period, with more and more people likely to receive laptops and desktop computers as gifts, the broadband market is starting to heat up and there are literally new deals and new offers being announced on a daily basis.
It looks as though the UK broadband landscape is changing forever with companies such as Virgin Broadband, BT broadband and the likes of Sky Broadband increasing their investment into the sector as they look to increase their market share. Whether this will be to the detriment of the smaller UK broadband providers remains to be seen as does the potential effect on competition in the future.
