While virgin broadband has been very prominent in the UK broadband market for some time, a bruising battle with Sky TV regarding pay-TV has impacted slightly up on the companies triple and quadruple sales packages. At this moment in time, 58% of Virgin broadband customers take out broadband, telephone and pay-TV services which is an increase on the 53% figure for the same time last year.
However, Virgin broadband is determined to increase this substantially over the coming years and has introduced part four of the bundle package which is Virgin Mobile. The confirmation from Ofcom that 46% of UK households actually buy broadband connectivity in tandem with other packages such as TV and telephone services is music to the ears of Virgin broadband and Sky TV.
In the three months to June 2009 the average revenue per user for Virgin rose by 3.8% to £43.27 although an improvement in the quality of services was followed by a price increase which saw just over 26,000 customers leave the group. As more and more broadband users demand other services as part of their overall package, this would appear to place the likes of Sky TV and Virgin broadband in pole position in the UK.
