There is no doubt that BT broadband has been by far and away the largest investor in to the UK broadband sector over the last few years. Even though the company has been eclipsed on many fronts by the likes of Virgin Broadband, Sky Broadband and other prominent UK broadband companies, there are many who believe a firm base has been secured for the future upon which British Telecom broadband can grow.
The fact that British Telecom is spearheading the nationwide fibre-optic network operation should not be lost on broadband users as the company will have a more hands-on approach to this operation than any other broadband operator in the UK. While the subject of additional financial help from the government and the regulator is ongoing there is no doubt that BT broadband is slowly but surely securing itself a place at the top table of the UK broadband sector of the future.
There are few other companies in the UK broadband industry with the financial backing and the infrastructure to even touch British Telecom broadband, something which the company is becoming more and more aware of. We are likely to see mergers and acquisitions in the UK broadband industry in the short, medium and longer term as the landscape of the UK broadband sector continues to change.
