While many of the headlines regarding the UK broadband sector seem to centre upon broadband speed, perhaps many people are missing the point and we should first be focusing upon broadband reliability and then building upon the speeds available in the future. So what is your main focus, broadband reliability or broadband speed?
While many of us will ultimately take more notice of the broadband speeds, or potential broadband speeds, available with the various packages in the UK perhaps we should be looking more towards reliability. Would you rather have a potentially superfast broadband connection which is unreliable and unsteady or would you rather have a slower broadband connection which was available 99.99% of the time?
Ultimately it may well depend upon how and where you use your broadband services, with businesses more likely to require reliability and relatively light use broadband consumers possibly focusing more on broadband speeds. The trick for the UK broadband industry is to find a balance between the two, consolidate the sector and then begin to build on broadband speeds available.
So far the UK broadband industry has done fairly well in balancing reliability and speed, although there is a growing demand for superfast broadband speeds in the UK, something which should hopefully be assisted by the ongoing creation of BT’s nationwide fibre-optic broadband network.
