Virgin Media is set to demonstrate its 200 Mb per second broadband service at the forthcoming Ideal Home Show 2010. The company is the main sponsor of the event and will make public the superfast broadband service which has been in trials in Kent since 2009 with further trials about to start in Coventry. So what exactly will 200 Mb per second broadband do for you?

The company has issued a number of statistics to show the extreme power of superfast broadband which will allow a music album to be downloaded in three seconds, an hour-long TV show in around 16 seconds and a high-definition movie will take under four minutes to download. There is no doubt that 200 Mb per second broadband speeds will make a difference to download speeds across the UK but many believe we’re yet to see the emergence of relevant services to make full use of these superfast speeds.

One area of the media which is likely to make full use of superfast broadband in the future is TV with long-held hopes regarding the amalgamation of television and the Internet like to come to fruition at some point in the future. When this will be and how much this will cost remains to be seen.
