Virgin Media has announced a new deal for customers which will see access to 10 Mb per second broadband services for just £5 a month. Many experts believe this is the first real step towards the development of the VoIP market (voice over Internet protocol) which has for many years been lurking in the background.

While more and more people are aware of Virgin Broadband as well as the current VoIP services in the UK it is the introduction of superfast broadband speeds which will see this market grow significantly in the short, medium and longer term. The cheap offer from Virgin Broadband is unlikely to last forever but it could offer an interesting alternative for those who may be paying more than £5 a month for a less reliable service and reduced broadband speed.

There are so many new services which will come into play as UK broadband speeds continue to improve with video on demand and VoIP grabbing the headlines over the last few days. These are just the tip of the iceberg as unreliable broadband speeds and unreliable services have hampered the development of the online arena in the past. Even though the UK is currently suffering “economic turbulence” there have been many developments within the UK broadband sector over the last couple of years.
