A report by BT business has revealed that the vast majority of small and medium-sized businesses in the UK have experienced a significant increase in business levels purely and simply because of the fact they are connected to the Internet. A total of 61% of the 7200 small and medium-sized businesses surveyed confirmed that faster broadband speeds had a significant impact on their businesses offering access to better website, e-commerce operations, new mobile technology and also allowing remote access for members of staff working outside of the office.

It was also revealed that 30% of businesses surveyed confirmed they had saved money by using the new technology available in the Internet arena, 32% use the Internet on a regular basis to request advice and an impressive 28% also confirmed that the number of customers approaching them via the Internet has increased. All in all it seems that the Internet has, and continues to, have a positive impact on small and medium-sized businesses in the UK, opening markets which were previously unavailable to them.

The survey also confirmed that UK businesses with a “positive attitude to new technology” had a 69% better than average experience during the recession and those who did not appreciate new technology had a 34% worse than average experience during the recession.
