A number of prominent broadband tests in the UK have confirmed the gradual increase in average broadband speeds continues. Indeed the average broadband speed in April reached a record 4.98 Mb per second which leaves the UK tantalizingly close to the 5 Mb per second barrier. But is this enough?
When you consider where the UK broadband sector has come from over the last few years, an average of 4.98 Mb per second is certainly nothing to be ignored. There is even confidence that Virgin Media, with an average speed of 9.37 Mb per second in April, could indeed become the first UK Internet service provider to average more than 10 Mb per second during any one month. Whether this will happen in the short term remains to be seen but the progress at Virgin Media has been swift and very impressive over recent months.
It is such elements as broadband speeds which catch the attention of UK consumers and are likely to open doors in the future. The ability to provide such attractive speeds with a reliable service is literally the Holy Grail of the UK broadband industry and something which all Internet service providers are chasing!
