As the postal strike enters its second week with little or no likelihood of a short-term solution to the issue, there had been growing concern in the consumer market that broadband providers would be impacted by the strike. However, the likes of three mobile broadband have confirmed that their services will be unaffected by the postal strike as they have taken on the services of a third-party private postal company to deliver broadband equipment and agreements.
While it is a relief to see that Internet broadband orders will be unaffected by the postal strike, more and more people are now looking towards the Internet as a more convenient and more reliable way to deliver important data. Only now is it becoming more apparent how much we depend upon the traditional postal service, despite the fact that high-tech e-mail and communication services are available at our fingertips. It will be interesting to see how the ongoing postal strike impacts upon e-mail use and other online services in the short, medium and longer term.
