Don’t worry this is only a made up headline and is never going to happen but can you imagine what would happen to the UK economy and UK consumers in event that the UK broadband network collapsed?
The very fact that this headline would have injected massive concern into UK consumers and UK businesses is evidence of the growing influence that the internet and broadband has around the world. There are literally businesses which would collapse, consumer services which would be unavailable and in many ways the UK economy would grind to a halt. Can you imagine a day with no e-mails? Can you imagine a day never looking at an Internet page?
No matter what people say about internet technology and our dependence upon certain areas of technology, the fact is that without it the world that we know today would actually grind to a halt. The impact upon economic activity, government finances, business finances and personal finances would be inconceivable even if the Internet were down for an hour, a day or a month around the world.
Thankfully there are a number of backup systems available in the Internet environment and while they will have been activated at times in the past the likelihood is you would never have noticed the difference.
