The Carphone Warehouse has today announced a rebranding of the Tiscali UK broadband operation which will now be known as TalkTalk broadband. The Tiscali broadband brand-name is now officially dead in the UK a move which was inevitable after the £236 million acquisition by The Carphone Warehouse. However, there are further changes for former Tiscali UK broadband customers to consider.
Even though the acquisition of Tiscali UK broadband brings the number of broadband customers under The Carphone Warehouse banner to 4.12 million, Tiscali UK customers will see their monthly charges increase. After being warned of a “small increase” towards the end of 2009 Tiscali UK customers will see an extra five pounds added to the cost of their monthly broadband packages, if they do not upgrade to TalkTalk’s phone rental service.
While this will be something of a disappointment for some Tiscali broadband customers there is no doubt that they are now part of a larger and stronger operation. TalkTalk not only offers broadband services but the company has also put together a very impressive package for traditional telephone line services. It will be interesting to see whether any former Tiscali UK broadband customers migrate to other UK broadband providers.
