Leading UK broadband provider Orange has recently released a report which details the working habits of those who depend upon the Internet for their working practices. It is interesting to look at the way in which both fixed line broadband and mobile broadband are impacting upon the UK economy as a whole and in particular the UK business arena.
It is common knowledge that more and more people in the UK are working “remotely” and on the move in what is fast becoming the new and all-encompassing Digital era. Orange, which offers both fixed line and mobile broadband services, believes that this trend will continue and indeed the broadband industry will have more and more influence on the UK economy and the UK population. Some experts believe that access to the Internet in all parts of the UK, especially for business applications, could actually shift the centre of UK property markets in the future.
If it is possible to access relatively high speed broadband connections anywhere in the UK, this offers the potential for business users to literally live anywhere. However, opinion is divided as to whether this will actually occur because we have seen similar “forecasts” in the past, in particular the assumption that working days would become shorter and leisure time would become longer. This has not happened yet!
