It has been revealed that UK broadband provider Orange is still losing customers although the drop from 840,000 subscribers to 816,000 between the fourth quarter of 2009 and the first quarter of 2010 is less than the 59,000 drop seen in the previous quarter. This shows perfectly why the company has effectively handed over control of its broadband network to British Telecom leaving the company to concentrate on improving service standards and customer services.

The company hopes that the reduction in the rate of customer “shredding” will continue to decline and indeed move back onto a positive track in the short to medium term. While there is no doubt that Orange broadband has made a name for itself in the UK, there are some who have complained about the level of reliability and customer support available. Thankfully, the company seems to have taken notice of consumer concerns and we should hopefully see the re-emergence of Orange broadband as one of the major players in the UK.

It is also worth remembering that the company is in the throes of acquiring T-Mobile UK which will literally change the makeup and prospects of the company going forward. Orange broadband is also looking at the IPTV market which is set to grow significantly in the short, medium and longer term.
