Virgin Media has today confirmed that the company’s business ISP Ntl:Telewest will be rebranded under the Virgin Media Business banner. This is probably the last major reorganisation of the Virgin Media Business which also contains the original NTL and Telewest operations. In reality the rebranding is superficial as the Ntl:Telewest has been a prominent part of the Virgin Media Business for some time although this does bring all broadband and Internet operations under the same banner.
Virgin Media has made a number of changes to its broadband operations over the last few months resulting in a refocusing of the operation, significant investment and increased profile. There is no doubt that Virgin Broadband is becoming one of the more popular Internet service providers in the UK both on the business side and the consumer side. The ability to bundle together TV, telephone and Internet services has played a major part in the increased profile of the operation and is set to continue to benefit the company’s profile in the medium to longer term.
The next major event in the UK broadband sector is the nationwide introduction of superfast fibre optic broadband connectivity which will further differentiate the large players in the industry from the smaller niche Internet service providers.
