A survey by Eclipse Internet has found that 54% of employees in the UK plan to watch at least one World Cup game online when the tournament starts. The biggest hotspot for the UK Internet providers will come on 23 June when England play Slovenia as this is a 3 PM kickoff, the only midweek afternoon kickoff for England fans.

Historically many employers have decided to offer employees the chance to watch the game in the office as a way of controlling unexplained absences and other media devices being used in the work place. However, if these opportunities do not rise, especially for the midweek England game, there are a number of websites which are promoting the World Cup and offering online services for those looking to keep abreast of the games.

As a consequence of this renewed interest in the UK online TV arena, otherwise known as IPTV, there is every chance this could be the kickstart that the IPTV sector needs. It will also act as an interesting test of the current UK broadband network and its ability to service high demand live streaming of sports events. So where will you be watching the World Cup games?
