Over the last few months we have seen more and more political comments and policies released regarding broadband and mobile broadband in the UK. Slowly but surely politicians are beginning to understand that the introduction of a superfast broadband network in the UK is something consumers and businesses are demanding and broadband is touching more and more of our everyday lives. But can the subject of broadband become an election winner?

While there is no doubt that broadband is very much in the minds and thoughts of UK consumers and UK businesses there are other issues which will be more prominent in the run-up to the election, such as the economy and taxes. However, with both of the major political parties announcing a major shakeup of the broadband industry in the future with the introduction of broadband networks of different speeds, the subject is becoming more prominent in the media.

Recently we saw the Conservative party announce plans for a superfast 100 Mb per second broadband network throughout the UK which far exceeds the current UK government plans. However, there are issues with regards to funding, reliability and timescales although at this moment in time many consumers are just interested in the headlines.

It will be interesting to see which of the political parties wins the next election and whether they actually implement their promises as they stand at the moment?
