When you consider that 99.99% of businesses in the UK are hooked up to the Internet and have an online exposure, it is not difficult to see that the broadband industry has had a massive positive impact upon the UK economy. However, under the surface the Internet has instigated massive competition both online and off-line and we have seen a number of UK retailers fall by the wayside, unable to compete with their online competitors.

On the whole the Internet, and more recently broadband, has opened up massive new markets for companies in the UK who are now able to market themselves to “every sitting room in the world”. It is this ability, at a relatively cost, which has literally changed the look and feel of the U.K. economy and the UK business arena as a whole. To take away the Internet, and more specifically broadband, would see UK businesses literally fall by the wayside, unable to compete with their online counterparts.

The Internet is here to stay and companies such as Sky broadband, Virgin broadband, AOL broadband and BT broadband to name but a few are set to take a more central role in the UK economy and the UK consumer market in the future.
