While BT continues to hog the headlines regarding the introduction of a superfast broadband network in the UK, many people are unaware that Virgin Media currently offers 50 Mb per second broadband to those in participating areas of the UK. So what do you get with your Virgin Media 50 Mb per second broadband package?
The package itself is currently free for the first two months and then £28 a month thereafter, for customers with a Virgin telephone line or £33 a month for the first two months and then £38 a month thereafter for those without a Virgin phone line. As well as the superfast broadband speed, customers will receive unlimited downloads, free Internet security, unlimited calls to landline’s and Virgin mobiles.
There is no doubt that Virgin media is making a play for the superfast broadband sector and would appear to have jumped the gun on BT broadband at least in the short-term. However, there is no doubt that the superfast broadband sector will develop rapidly in the months and years to come and we will likely see a price war in due course. Who will eventually take the top seat at the superfast broadband table remains to be seen!
