As we move into 2010 and potentially a new era in the UK broadband and UK mobile broadband sectors, it is worth looking back to see if the Internet has literally changed your life. While many of us automatically assume we could do without the Internet without impacting upon our lives, growing interest in online retail, online banking and a general dependence upon the Internet continues to grow. There are many people in the UK who spend literally hours a day on the Internet and would be lost without this particular service.
The Internet has also brought employment opportunities to millions around the UK and hundreds of millions around the world. The ability to literally work on the move and work in any country you choose has seen freedom of movement increase significantly over the last decade. However, over the last couple of years we have seen governments around the world wake up to the fact that the Internet is a potential gold mine for tax revenue.
As we have seen in the UK, with the introduction of the UK government’s broadband tax, like UK motorists, UK broadband users will be an easy target for additional taxes in the short, medium and longer term. The Internet has changed our lives and it is here to stay but in reality we have all but scratched the surface.
