Despite the fact that the headlines in the UK are dominated by the ongoing creation of a UK wide fibre-optic broadband network, there are few applications at the moment which demand the type of speeds we will see in the future. However, it is believed that media companies across the world are working flat out to bring in such applications as 3D TV which we require the type of superfast broadband only available via the fibre-optic option.
There are hopes that by the time the UK wide fibre-optic broadband network is available we will see introduction of applications such as 3D TV and other similar services which will benefit from the increased speed. Many people believe there is the potential for broadband to become more of a focal point in the media delivery market with traditional TV the main target. Once we have access to superfast broadband around the UK it will be possible to deliver improved TV pictures and TV sound and ultimately broadband will become more prominent in homes across the UK, not just for traditional Internet access.
We are certainly entering a new age for the UK broadband market with the likes of BT Broadband, Sky Broadband, Orange Broadband, Vodafone Broadband and other prominent UK broadband providers working hard behind the scenes on new services and new products.
