In a move which will attract applauds from many UK Internet users, the Conservative party has confirmed that if it wins the next general election it would scrap the Labour government’s proposed six pound broadband tax. It is estimated that the broadband tax, which could well come in before the next general election, would raise around £175 million year which is neither here nor there with regards to the cost of upgrading UK broadband services.

However, some people are surprised to see that the Conservative party is yet to come up with an alternative for the government’s proposed broadband tax because in reality there is a need for significant investment into the UK broadband sector, ultimately led by the UK authorities. We do need to see more “meat on the bone” with regards to the Conservative party’s plans for the UK broadband industry but ultimately this will come in due course if the party is voted into power.

Whatever happens over the next few months, there is no doubt that the UK broadband sector is in need of significant investment and all relevant parties will need to chip in with their fair share. Ultimately it is likely that we will see UK broadband prices increase but we should also see an improvement in services and reliability.
