BT Broadband has today announced a deal with the Olympic Broadcasting Services Company which will see BT’s fibre-optic network used to relay information from 21 Olympic venues in 2012 back to the main media centre. The fibre-optic network will ensure that millions of viewers around the world will be able to watch the Olympics 2012 in high definition due to the cutting-edge technology built into the network.

Slowly but surely the BT fibre-optic network is expanding around the UK and in the coming years we will see a massive increase in broadband speeds and broadband availability. The very fact that BT Broadband has been able to sign up the Olympic movement for the 2012 games in London is another feather in the cap of the UK broadband sector and one which will give the company significant media exposure.

Even though the UK has to a certain extent lagged many other areas of the world with regards to broadband technology we have seen a major improvement over the last decade. There is still much work to be done but once the BT nationwide fibre-optic broadband network is available this will open new avenues for both consumers and businesses. The UK is certainly entering a new phase in broadband development!
