Figures from 2009 indicate there are now more than 18 million broadband Internet subscribers in the UK which is a significant improvement on 2008. It seems that increased awareness of the Internet and broadband as well as significant investment into new technology has caught the attention of UK consumers and businesses alike. So what can we expect in the future?

As technology continues to improve and broadband speeds continue to increase we’re likely to see more and more services offered online in the future. Indeed many believe we are not far away from an amalgamation of traditional media companies, such as TV companies, and the Internet with high broadband speeds a vital component of this development. It is also interesting to see that more and more broadband users in the UK are now aware of security issues and scams which are cropping up on a regular basis.

It is also worthwhile pointing out that the previous UK government was instrumental in making consumers and businesses more aware of broadband services in the UK which will benefit the UK economy in the medium to longer term. So is the UK ready for the next step in the development of superfast broadband?
