While it may have taken some time, it now looks as though the vast majority of broadband users in the UK are now well aware of maximum broadband speeds and actual broadband speeds. It is no secret that the regulators have clamped down upon the advertising of superfast broadband speed packages, now ensuring that each and every user is made aware of the broadband speeds available in their area. But are you making use of the information available?

In simple terms, under the current broadband network system the further away you are from your nearest telephone exchange the less chance of hitting the higher speeds publicised in the press. While this may well change when the fibre-optic network is introduced to the UK, for the time being it is worth checking to see exactly what speeds are available in your area and which Internet broadband providers are available.

There is no point paying for a super fast broadband connection only to find that your area does not support the maximum speed. While more and more consumers are now aware of the cost of broadband and what they actually receive, it is worthwhile checking your broadband provider statistics on a regular basis to see how they fare against their competitors. Switching broadband providers has never been easier and potentially more cost-effective.
