As mobile broadband becomes ever more popular in the UK and overseas Vodafone has announced its intention to trial 21Mbps mobile broadband speeds on its Spanish network. The company has already successfully trialled a 16Mbps service which proved to be even more successful than the company had anticipated. While download speeds were very impressive we are still awaiting details of upload speeds which are proving ever more essential in the world of mobile broadband.

While Vodafone is keen to highlight the ongoing trials of its Spanish broadband service, which it hopes to roll out across Europe, the company is keen to play down expectations suggesting that while speeds of 21Mbps were available during the trial, some urban areas could see speeds cut to as low as 4Mbps. The company believes that speeds of around 13Mbps will allow the delivery of quality video material on the move, something which is the Holy Grail to many mobile broadband operators.

While Vodafone is not the only major mobile phone company looking at significantly increased mobile broadband speeds, it would appear the group has been working on a variety of options and services over the last couple of years behind the scenes. Speeds of up to 21Mbps would give the company a significant lead over its competitors and push the boundaries of mobile broadband back further again.
