While it has been literally years in development it seems that the much rumoured assault on the mobile broadband market by Google has actually started. The launch of the G1 earlier this week has allowed Google to put down a marker for the future and give it a base from which to grow. The fact that the Android operating system is open source means that there is literally an army of thousands of developers out their just waiting to launch the latest widgets and services!
The G1 handset has surprised many as there had been suspicions that it would be rushed out to ensure it was in the shops for Christmas. However, the fast speed mobile broadband service has gone down very well and people are starting to talk about a challenge to the infamous iPhone. Has Google hit the spot? Will we see mobile broadband services develop at a faster pace in the future?
Each and every market which Google has made a serious play for has seen substantial development in the years after Google entered. While the internet giant will not be able to dominate the mobile phone sector as it might have hoped, it does offer the opportunity to work with some of the best handset and network providers in the business and hopefully push forward developments in mobile broadband.
