As competition in the UK mobile broadband market continues to mount, this week we have seen Orange broadband announce what is in effectively the U.K.’s cheapest broadband at just £4.86 month – although this will only provide 500 Mb. However the company has promised that no customer will be charged more than £40 per month no matter how much they use their mobile Internet connection and how much data they download.

The company is also promoting an “earlybird tariff” which offers unlimited mobile broadband connectivity between midnight and 9 AM for just £13 a month. As more and more users work from home in the UK, with many working through the night, this particular package is expected to prove very popular and will inject a further dose of competition into the sector.

Orange mobile broadband is also offering three separate packages of 1 GB, 3 GB and 10 GB data download per month and the opportunity to acquire further blocks of data allowance at £20 for 10 GB and £5 for 1 GB. This is a significant move in the mobile broadband sector in the UK and has pushed Orange to the top of the pile, although competitors are unlikely to stand by and let the company dictate the market.
