In a move which is sure to prompt a similar offer from other mobile broadband operators it has been revealed that the O2 mobile broadband deal, which includes fixed line DSL access, is proving to be a real hit with customers far and wide. The package costs £20 a month and offers 3GB of data usage, together with DSL access, with competing mobile broadband only packages retailing at £15. It therefore means that O2 is providing fixed line broadband access for just £5 a month!

If the mobile phone network operators are to squeeze into the fixed line broadband market they need to use mobile broadband to push open the door. Many consumers at the moment do not like the idea of paying two separate charges for fixed line and mobile broadband and until acceptance of mobile broadband is more widespread it seems as though this area is suffering.

However, the opportunity to bundle fixed line and mobile broadband together could be the catalyst to not only allow mobile network groups to enter the fixed line broadband market but it could also see more public acceptance of mobile broadband. Who will be the first to follow O2 down this path?
