As the mobile broadband sector continues to grow in popularity throughout the UK, those looking to use the roaming system have received a warning to ensure that they do not exceed their monthly limits. A recent survey shows that mobile broadband users who exceed their limits by up to 1GB could see up to £200 added to their annual bills.
It was revealed that O2 charge customers 19.6p per MB, 3 charge customers 10p, Vodafone charge 1.46p per MB and Orange also charges 1.46p per excess MB over the agreed limit. It would appear at this point in time it is only T-Mobile that does not charge customers for exceeding their download limits although whether this will change in due course remains to be seen.
While there is no suggestion that any of these charges are hidden from customers, as they are all printed on the relevant websites, many customers appear unaware of the excess charges they may incur. The assumption that the broadband is and will always remain cheap is something which many customers in the mobile broadband sector would need to reconsider. Many people forget that significant investment has gone into this technology and vast improvements in broadband speeds for both landline and mobile variations do not come cheap.
