While initially the various mobile broadband services available in the UK attracted a great deal of criticism there would appear to have been something of a sea change over the last couple of years as the industry continues to make great strides. We have seen the likes of T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange and other prominent mobile networks in the UK invest millions of pounds into their own particular services as they look to take a chunk of the home broadband and business broadband sector. But is mobile broadband dependable and is it really the future of the UK broadband industry?

As with the introduction of the humble mobile phone, the ability to have communication technology available on the move should not be underestimated. While countries such as Singapore and others in the Far East are literally miles ahead of the UK mobile broadband industry the gap has narrowed somewhat of late. The market for mobile broadband has increased substantially over recent months even though the UK is going through one of the worst recessions in living memory.

A number of customer surveys have suggested that confidence in mobile broadband services in the UK has increased substantially over the last 12 months with more people never before signing up and considering their options. This has placed great pressure on the fixed line broadband industry where prices are increasingly coming under pressure as the leading broadband service providers continue to jockey for position.
