BT has released a report on internet use in the UK entitled BT 21st Century Life Index which makes very interesting reading and bodes well for the future of UK broadband. The report was produced after surveying 2,000 people across the UK to try and track how technology has changed the lives of people in the country over the last decade.

The report found that there are a growing number of UK internet users who spend upwards of 30 hours online each week with more than half of the population spending at least 6 hours online each week  compared to just fourteen percent a decade ago. Interestingly, rather than sticking to tried and tested websites it was also revealed that nineteen percent of surfers will regularly check out at least 20 different sites a week a far cry from the small group of sites so common in the 1990s.

In a move which also bodes well for the online business sector it was also revealed that fifty percent have booked flights and holidays online, forty six percent have bought books online, twenty one percent have bought music via the net and a growing nineteen percent have even branched out and acquired groceries online.

The news that nineteen percent of those questioned said they could not live without the internet is a substantial rise from ten years ago and would indicate that the future of the UK broadband industry is very safe for the foreseeable future.
