There are a number of reasons why we do not always experience the same broadband speed that our broadband providers may advertise and while many are connected with your position from your nearest exchange it is not all that straight forward according to the experts at BT broadband.
While there has always been a suspicion that electrical equipment around the home and the office does reduce the power of broadband signals nobody has ever really made a major attempt to reduce this impact, until now. However, BT has introduced what is being called the BT I-Plate which can be fitted to any BT NTE 5 master socket and filter out the signals which are affecting the broadband signal in your home.
BT claims that the I-Plate could be used in over 9 million homes across the UK and users would see an immediate improvement in their broadband speeds (in general users have reported improvements of up to 1.5Mbps although a lucky few have seen increases of up to 4Mbps!).
In theory the I-Plate isolates what is called the bell wire thus reducing any interference and improving the quality of the signal. However, in practice there is no doubt it does make a marked difference to user speeds but how big a difference will still depend on other factors such as how far you are from the exchange, quality of your broadband service, etc.
