Yes, it is correct and not a misprint!

BT has confirmed that it is on track to deliver the quickest broadband network ever seen in the UK when it goes live with the new Olympic Park Network. The system will be available well before the games start and have 10,000 access points within the M25 area where data speeds of 6GBps will be available.

While this is a big project, requiring 4,500 km of cable and the expertise of BT’s top broadband team, there are plans to use the service as a model for similar ventures throughout the UK’s larger cities. This would be a major jump in the quality of the UK service and put the country back up there with the leading broadband sectors around the world.

It seems as though BT has had a new lease of life of late after releasing a number of new innovative services, bulking up its offering to the business arena and snatching back more and more private surfers from competitors. If the group can deliver the Olympic project on time (which will be used to deliver TV, voice and internet services) that would place massive pressure on the likes of Sky Broadband, Virgin Broadband and the mobile broadband groups to name but a few.
