In a move which many are hoping will be followed by all of the major broadband providers in the UK, it has been announced that Sky Broadband will be abandoning its fair use policy which had caused a fierce backlash from consumers. Like so many other broadband providers offering unlimited broadband use the company had been operating a maximum usage policy of up to 250GB per month. So what now?

This now means that customers who have taken Sky Broadband Base, Sky Broadband Mid or Sky Broadband Max will now have truly unlimited download capabilities. The only service which will still incorporate the fair use policy is Sky Broadband Connect as this service is operated via a third party network and out of the control of Sky.

The last few months has seen Sky Broadband pushed further and further into the limelight and it was recently voted number one by consumers in a survey by Broadband Choices and Point Topic. It seems as though the substantial investment which Sky has put into the broadband division is now starting to pay dividends.

The sector continues to move quickly and all of the top players such as Sky broadband, Virgin broadband, BT broadband and Tiscali are moving with the times. It is also worth keeping an eye on the mobile broadband operators such as Vodafone broadband, 3 broadband and Orange broadband which are also making progress in the broadband industry.
