While in the UK we are fighting over broadband speeds from 10Mbps to 20Mps and complaining that they are not hitting the speeds which we were promised, how you so wish you had access to the Japanese broadband market where a new service launching in October, costing just £28 a month, will actually be delivering speeds of 1Gpbs – yes 1Gbps!
As we wait for the UK to latch onto the broadband technology developments around the world we are looking at speeds no higher than 200Mbps even when the much delayed fibre optic network is laid throughout the UK. So why are we so far behind?
As we recently covered on a separate post, there seems to be an awful lot of government assistance offered to research and development countries in the Far East. Tax breaks, government funding and no pressure on time scales has seen the broadband industry explode over the last few years.
However, now that the EU commission is taking a closer look at the UK and European broadband market, perhaps we are moving towards a period of financial investment and assistance for broadband pioneers in Europe? Or are we just about to get wrapped up in more red tape which will see the introduction of speeds of 1Gbps seem literally light years away?
