Over the last few months we have seen a number of contradictory comments emanating from the Carphone Warehouse boardroom with an initial suggestion that the broadband business would be spun off from the main mobile phone operation and either floated on the stock market or sold to a third-party. However, the Carphone Warehouse management surprised many in the city by acquiring Tiscali’s UK broadband operation for £236 million which it will add to its existing AOL Internet service.
It now seems as though the company is looking to “bulk up” the Internet broadband operation and make it as attractive as possible to would-be predators between now and July 2010. As we have covered in some of our earlier post, there is some debate as to whether Carphone Warehouse is in fact the number one broadband provider in the UK retail sector with British Telecom suggesting this is not the case.
Whether Carphone Warehouse is number one in the UK broadband sector is irrelevant at this moment in time because the business continues to grow and grow and attract more and more attention. Initial “teething problems” after the acquisition of AOL have now been laid to rest and the company is looking to the future with renewed vigour and renewed hope.
