While satellite broadcaster BSkyB announced profits which were 4% higher than this time last year it is the marked improvement in the company’s broadband service which has caught the eye of many. In the second quarter of 2009 it was revealed that the company took on a further 118,000 broadband customers with hopes for the future never higher. So why is BSkyB Broadband so popular at the moment?
While BSkyB Broadband has always been one of the more prominent broadband services in the UK there is no doubt that the investment of hundreds of millions of pounds into its Internet network and advertising are starting to pay significant benefits. BSkyB also has the added advantage of being able to bundle together an array of television and telephone packages which can in some cases give the impression that the Sky broadband service is “free”.
Even though the likes of BT, Carphone Warehouse and Virgin Broadband for example continue to grab the headlines at the moment it is companies such as BSkyB which appear to be laying the foundations for a significant push in the future. Bundled packages are becoming more and more prominent in the broadband sector and offer a very interesting price differential for those able to slash their prices.
