While video search engine specialist Blinkx has already made something of a name for itself in the broadband TV market with the launch of Blinkx BBTV, there was one large drawback in that users were asked to download a software package to use the service. However, due in the main to advances in technology the group has now launched a browser based version of BBTV which is sure to hit the spot with many internet users.
Advances in streaming technology and the emergence of a demanding market for broadband TV have opened the door for this more accessible version of BBTV. There have been so many false dawns with regards to internet based TV that it is very difficult to know when the real deal is upon us. However, the Blinkx service has shaken off a number of the negative factors often associated with the principle of broadband TV and opened a new market.
It seems only a matter of time before broadband services and traditional TV channels are combined there are some broadband TV sets on the market already and accepted by the mass market. The next hurdle will be quality content but with so many TV companies suffering from reduced advertising revenue there would seem to be an almost endless pool of material available, at the right price!
