All of the talk at the moment in the UK press is of the superfast broadband network which is being built in conjunction with BT Broadband and partly funded by the UK government. The UK authorities and the regulator have made an impassioned plea for the rollout of a superfast broadband network in the UK as soon as possible due to the fact it will impact directly upon the UK economy. However, there is a feeling that a wider superfast broadband network could see many businesses rebase away from the expensive city centres in the UK.

When you consider that many companies in the UK are predominantly online based they could in theory have their main office anywhere in the country, where a superfast broadband connection is available, and potential satellite offices in some of the U.K.’s largest cities purely for business meetings. This would not only reduce traffic into the city centres of the UK but would also reduce the cost base of many companies up and down the country.

While there is no possibility of this happening in the short term, due to the fact that the broadband network is not available and ultimately will take time to prove itself, it is something which could become a consideration in the foreseeable future. Broadband really could impact upon the population density of many areas of the UK!
