There has been a very interesting development in the ongoing modernisation of many secondary schools throughout the UK. The modern schools of today will come equipped with the latest IT equipment, education and accessories and more importantly for those of a computer minded nature, Wi-Fi enabled networks throughout the school premises. This is a major development in the onset and promotion of broadband in the UK and will see a whole new world appear for literally millions of children throughout the country.
While there are obvious needs for censorship and monitoring of these new school Wi-Fi systems there is a feeling that they offer significant benefits for the children of today who will join the workforce of tomorrow. The ability to work online, experience in computing and a general knowledge of communication networks around the UK will be vital to the younger children of today when they eventually move into the workforce.
There has been some criticism about the speed at which the UK government has introduced Wi-Fi networks into the schooling system around the UK but there is no doubt that the ongoing modernisation programme will pay significant dividends in the end. While it would be wrong to overlook many of the more traditional subjects taken at school, computing will be as vital as maths and English in the workplace of tomorrow for the school children of today.
