As the Internet world continues to expand and broadband speeds continue to improve we are becoming more and more reliant upon cyberspace. While there is still significant competition in the UK broadband sector there is no doubt that differing budgets are starting to impact upon performance speeds.
Due to the fact that the vast majority of UK broadband connections are accommodated by the British Telecom network there have been few serious “outages” in recent times. However, with fibre-optic networks, mobile broadband and other broadband connection networks set to come on line over the next few years, what would you do if you broadband connection was unreliable?
It would appear as time goes by we will see a significant differential between the performance of those in the top league of the UK broadband sector and those towards the bottom end. As broadband speeds continue to improve we will see more and more information passed by this medium and great dependence upon broadband connections. The potential for possible problems with some of the “less well funded” UK broadband operations will increase which could in due course see more focus on the top end of the UK broadband sector.
We will almost certainly see a reduction in the number of UK broadband providers in the years to come which would be an unfortunate, but inevitable, balancing act between reliability and pricing.
