Virgin Media has recently introduced the U.K.’s fastest consumer broadband service with speeds approaching 50 Mb per second, allowing an entire record album to be downloaded in as little as 11 seconds, a TV show in one minute and high-quality high definition movies in under four minutes. This is a significant move on behalf of Virgin Broadband as the company continues to steal a march on its UK competitors.
The service is currently available in Whitchurch were there appears to be a strong broadband presence already, with a Virgin Broadband report suggesting 85% of broadband users in the area logon every day. While 50 Mb per second broadband speeds have been mentioned in the UK market for some time, this is the first reliable service offering anywhere near 50 Mb per second and is sure to increase the profile of Virgin Broadband yet further.
The new ultrafast service is available for around £35 a month which offers excellent value for money in the current environment when compared to existing broadband services and existing broadband speeds. While there is much activity in the background of the UK broadband sector it is interesting to finally see some of this new technology hitting the public highways, allowing people to experience these new speeds.
