PlusNet Broadband has announced the activation of a fourth additional 155Mbps segment of central broadband capacity to its network. While there may be some balancing issues in the short term as customers are redirected to the appropriate area of the enlarged network this is very much a case of short-term pain for long-term gain. The small number of customers potentially affected by the rebalancing of the system we receive notice that this service may temporarily be affected.

PlusNet Broadband is one of those companies which have managed to creep up the UK broadband ladder, taking on many of the larger companies in the UK broadband and mobile broadband sector. While the company is wholly-owned by British Telecom (since 2007) it had already created something of a niche for itself before the acquisition by the telecoms giant. The introduction of the financial backing of British Telecom together with the technical expertise of the group has complimented the growing reputation and services provided by PlusNet Broadband.

While many people have been forecasting a reduction in the number of UK broadband providers, due to competition and cost issues, there has been no real sign of any major financial issues as yet. However, even if the ongoing recession does impact upon the sector at some stage, companies such as PlusNet broadband are sure to be here for a very long time to come.
