Supermarket giant Tesco has revealed plans to expand its mobile broadband operation with a number of free laptops available on various mobile broadband plans. So far the company has signed up Orange and 3 to the new free laptop mobile broadband service although other providers are expected to follow in due course.
Currently there are around 20 different laptops available as part of Tesco’s mobile broadband service with the cheapest laptop/broadband package starting at just under £25 a month for a two-year contract. The company is also offering a variety of bundles including its traditional mobile telephone service as the retail giant looks to expand away from its traditional market place.
The likes of Tesco have a serious head start over many other broadband providers in the UK due to the fact they have access to millions upon millions of UK consumers each and every day. Their ability to convert customer leads into business, in a variety of areas, is legendary and while a free laptop with your mobile broadband package is not a new offer it is one which Tesco is looking to exploit in the future. It will be interesting to see what percentage share of the market Tesco Mobile broadband is able to grab as competition becomes more intense across the board.
