Virgin Media customers in Warrington have been invited to apply for 200 places on the company’s trial programme regarding a new 50 MB broadband package. The chosen few will be able to access the new superfast service for two months at no extra cost as Virgin Media looks to the future of its UK service.
The new package will likely be available to the general public by the end of 2009 after the feedback from the Warrington trial has been digested and acted upon. The plan is that the XXL package will be added to the 2 MB service, the “L” 10 MB service and the “XL” 20 MB package. While there have been no details about a potential pricing structure for the new 50 MB broadband package it will need to be competitive to be successful.
After the recent reorganisation of Virgin Media, which saw a number of job cuts announced, those who expected the group to be on the back foot will be sorely disappointed. The reorganisation of the business, and the debt associated with the company, has given the group renewed vigour and confidence in the future and taken away some of the short-term financial constraints.
